Malene is one of the artists I ‘discovered’ when wandering around the web. She replied to my invitation immediately with a request of her own. If you have any poems that are themed around night-time and dreams, I would be very interested since those are themes I often work with when I paint. So I emailed her 8 appropriate poems and she made her choice.
Introducing Malene Reynolds Laugeson
I was born in Denmark in 1969. I studied life drawing at Glyptoteket, Copenhagen and later I worked in animation before going on to study at the Danish school of Design.
In 1991 and 92 I worked with Danish artist Svend Wiig Hansen. As a freelancer I illustrated children’s books for about sixteen years both in Denmark and for the American market.
I met my husband in 2004 while traveling in Australia and in 2008 we moved to Christchurch with our oldest son. After the earth quake in 2011, as well as illustrating I began painting again.
Though my paintings are still inspired by the fairy tales and children’s stories I’ve worked with for so many years, my main interest is to explore the realm of dreams and the door they open to the subconscious, into a world that is at once magical, alluring and frightening. A world where anything can happen.
